United Nations – Health Care Cooperation
The EU has established a close relationship with the United Nations (UN), through cooperation with the UN Secretariat and UN agencies, funds, and programmers. The cooperation covers both global health and some issues directly related to health, to promote Health Care including development, human rights, climate change, crisis management, and humanitarian aid. Sustainable development goals
The 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), agreed upon in 2015, represent a global framework for action until 2030.
While many of these are related to health, one focuses specifically on it. Objective no. 3 aims to “ensure a healthy life and promote well-being for all, at all ages”. Among other things, it considers:
- Infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, hepatitis
- Noncommunicable diseases and mental health
- Abuse of prohibited substances
- Tobacco control
- Access to vaccines and medicines
Health Financing and Health Workforce Issues
The European Commission and the EU Member States have a shared responsibility to achieve the SDGs.
