When the soil gets saturated with water in a particular region of the soil, it will cause the phenomenon which is called waterlogging.

There are some causes that occur in soil due to waterlogging:

- Excess of Rainfall

Oceanic Waterlogging: It occurs due to the bringing of ocean water due to hurricanes and also due to tsunamis
Seasonal Waterlogging: The water runoff from rain accumulates at the lower soils and also in depressions causing waterlogging
Perennial Waterlogging: It occurs when the rainwater enters the swamps and wetland areas causes to seep down into the nearby land.
Signs of Waterlogging
Waterlogging remains unnoticed until the water comes to the surface of the earth. By this point, the roots of the plants may damage.
Knowing the signs of waterlogging can help us to identify its treatment before it’s too late. The symptoms may be Water Stress due to lake of water and the growth of the plant may be too short. They include:

- Blue-black ROOTS
- Peeling bark
- Drying the shoots
- Stunted Plant Growth
- A Sour Rotting Smell
Effects on Soil | Waterlogging
When the displacement of the oxygen occurs due to the water the growth of the plant stop. The excess amount of water can change the PH of the soil and makes it more acidic. This is also affecting the level of nitrogen present in our soils.
Waterlogging also causes the cooling in the soil, as a result, the soil microorganisms cannot perform their activities properly as a result the production of the crops decreases.
Finally, waterlogged soil is an ideal breeding place for pests, mosquitoes, and for slugs.
