The Cinderella Live Action Film Project

Walt Disney Studios has been interested in years in bringing Cinderella back to the big screen, reintroducing this timeless fairy tale to XNUMXth-century audiences and awakening the nostalgia and memories of millions of people around the world. First, the film had to be able to entertain and give humanity to the characters in the story, while retaining the unforgettable characteristics of the animated classic.

Director Kenneth Branagh (Hamlet, Thor) had never considered directing a fairy tale, but after reading the script by Chris Weitz (About a Boy) he unexpectedly empathized with the story. To adapt the story for modern audiences, it was essential to preserve the message of kindness and compassion of the original classic. The story of Cinderella convinced all the Filmmakers in Film Industry.

Royal Costumes

The presence of elaborate costumes was equally fundamental to the production, and costume designer Sandy Powell was hired to create them, more than qualified for such a job. In addition to her impressive filmography, Powell has spent many years designing men’s costumes in men’s films, so she was very excited at the prospect of working on a film full of strong female characters.

It was essential to have a similar look between the costumes and sets, so Powell worked closely with production designer Dante Ferrety. Fortunately, the two shared the same studio during pre-production and were able to meet every day to make sure everything was coordinated. Powell began working on each character’s sketches nearly two years before filming.
